The last five days (14-18 April 2024) have been extraordinary! We had the Duality@50 conferenceml, organised by the Social Networks Lab ETH Zurich to celebrate 50 years of Ron Breiger's paper "The Duality of Persons and Groups"
During the week, we went to the beautiful Centre of Monte Verità, Ascona, and spent time all together to discuss topics related to 'duality' and social networks.
We had the chance to hear outstanding keynote speakers. Such as Ron Breiger, John Levi Martin, Robin Wagner-Pacifici, Omar Lizardo, Sophie Mützel, Philippa E Pattison, and Tom A.B. Snijders. And many, many great presentations about duality. Special mention to my PhD student Roberto Velazquez-Quiroz, who presented our ongoing work "Artists, Works of Arts, and Galleries: A Socio-Semantic Approach to the Contemporary Art Market and its Dualities". My contribution aimed to understand how researchers in different organisations reinforce their social status by citing other researchers and if researchers in core organisations differ in their propensity to cite other researchers.
