I have just released a major update of netmem, my R package for computing and working with social network measures using matrix algebra.
The first version of netmem was released on CRAN on 16 April 2026. Five months later, this new release (version 1.1-0) represents a substantial expansion and revision of the package. It includes new functions for centrality, communities, roles and positions, structural holes, segregation, network inference, network dynamics, citation networks, and multilayer and multilevel networks, alongside improvements and corrections to existing functions.
One of the aims of netmem is to bring together classical and more recent network measures within a common matrix-based framework, while keeping their implementation relatively transparent for research and teaching. The new version also includes additional documentation and vignettes, including introductions to the package and to functionality that is less commonly available in other R packages.
The package can be installed directly from CRAN:
install.packages("netmem")
Further information, documentation, and the complete list of changes are available through CRAN and the package website.
