Social Networks Group – UC

November 2024

In November 2024, I created the Social Networks Group – UC at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile as a collaborative space for researchers and students interested in social network analysis and network science.

The group brings together researchers from different disciplinary backgrounds to study relational systems through social network analysis, statistical network models, computational methods, and mixed-methods research. Its aim is to provide a space where theoretical, methodological, and substantive questions about networks can be discussed together.

Since its creation, the group has progressively grown into a broader research community, bringing together faculty, doctoral and master’s students, research associates, and international visitors. Our activities include regular research meetings, graduate training, collaborative research projects, international academic exchanges, and the development of open-source tools for network analysis.

The group currently works across several substantive areas, including group dynamics, science and knowledge, governance and policy networks, organizations, and education, alongside methodological research on statistical and computational approaches to networks.

An important part of the initiative is also to strengthen the broader community of social network researchers in Chile. The group therefore works in close alliance with CHISOCNET – the Chilean Society for Social Network Science, contributing to the development of social network science in Chile and its connections with the wider Ibero-American and international research community.

What began in November 2024 as a space for bringing together people working with networks at UC continues to develop as a platform for research, methodological innovation, training, and collaboration.
